The Physics of Golf Ball Flight

Event Information

The behaviours of sports balls in flight is a subject of current mystique and occasional controversy. Pioneering studies into the mechanisms and metrics of golf ball flight were undertaken in the 1890s by Peter Tait, Professor of Natural Philosophy at Edinburgh University, who published his influential results widely in the popular and scientific press. His findings remain relevant to modern equipment technology.

Presentation by John Pearson, author of “York Golf Club 1890-1990”, a golf historian who has published a number of club-, regional-, and general histories of the game, and is a past editor of Through the Green, the journal of the British Golf Collectors Society.

Doors open 7.15pm.  Tickets are free and can be pre-booked by phone or on-line with  City  Screen  (0871 902 5726)

Alternatively tickets are available on the night of the event at the City Screen Ticket Desk – limited to 70 for each event.
