Visit to Locomotion, Shildon DL4 2RE
Thursday 23rd January 2025
from 10.30am to 3pm plus travelling time by train
£10 to include Locomotion donation and YPS Admin fee visits per person
Locomotion is the part of the National Railway Museum developed in the birthplace of railways with New Hall, opened in 2024, its’ new purpose-built building designed like an engine shed and housing 47 of the 99 railway vehicles in the largest collection of undercover historic railway vehicles in Europe. As we are celebrating 200 years of Railways (Railway 200) we suggest travelling by Train from York to Shildon on the 9.21 TransPennine Train to Darlington and then the Northern Rail 9.55 to Shildon. There is a 10minute walk to the Museum. We will have a guided tour at 11.30am timed to allow for train delays! For lunch, not included, there is a Café as well as indoor and outdoor picnic spaces. In Winter the Museum closes at 4pm so we suggest aiming for the 15.33 train from Shildon, changing at Darlington and getting into York at 16.31
