The Malden Owen Engineering & Physics Awards
These awards (of £250 each) are given to the best graduating students on an MEng and MPhys programme respectively at the University of York. (Prior to 2024 only an Engineering Award was made.)

In 2024 the Engineering Award was made to Giuseppe Barillari for his project “Visualising Many-Core systems”, and the Physics Award to William Cranton for his project “Modelling the dynamics of protein binding to DNA”. In 2023 two prizes were awarded, to David Miall for his project “The Development and Testing of a Low-Cost Electromagnetic Fault Injection Platform for Embedded Security Research” and to Joseph Ingham for his project “Bio-inspired Adaptation and Navigation of Quadruped Robot”.
In 2022 the award was made to Joseph Twigg for his final year project “Communication in Network-on-Chip Systems”.
In 2021 two prizes were awarded to James Gardner for his project “Virtual physiotherapist: dynamic exergame difficulty using reinforcement learning for the rehabilitation of gait”, and to Louis Newman for his project “Social mobile application for events and mapping”.
In 2019 the award was given to Jonathan Rasch, for his final-year project “Multi-objective evolutionary hyperparameter optimisation of deep neural networks”.
