Askham Bog is a small patch of peatland within the York ringroad that has more species of plants and animals for its size than anywhere else in Yorkshire. The reasons for this diversity lie partly in its complex set of habitats but especially in the long (and well documented) history of human activity. The Bog has been a peat-mine, a hemp factory and a skating rink in its time. Professor Fitter will explain why this jewel in York’s environment is so special and also so endangered.
Doors open 7.15pm. This evening’s presentation will begin at 7.45pm.
