During the severe flooding in the centre of York in the past days, the City Screen Basement Bar was affected and, unfortunately, it is still not back to a state in which we can host this month’s Café Scientifique. The speaker, Prof. Paul Walton will deliver his presentation on Chocolate and its Chemistry: why we fall in love with it at a later date. What would we find out about chocolate if we could see its molecules? Does a molecular view allow us to ind the reason why it tastes so good?  Can we say whether it acts as an aphrodisiac?  Is it good for your health?  Can it be improved?  All of these questions and more will be discussed at this Cafe Scientifique.

Professor Walton heads a research lab which focuses, amongst other things, on cellulose degradation for biofuels and anti-cancer agents. He is a recipient of the Royal Society’s Higher Education Teaching Award and has chaired the editorial board of the Dalton Transactions Journal.

Doors open at 7pm while the presentation will start at 7:30pm to give you time to get a drink from the bar and settle into your seat. You may even wish to treat yourself to a bar of chocolate for this event!
