Event Information

After tonight’s lecture, during our regular wine and chat session at the lodge, we will be offering a last opportunity for you to see the  display of materials about the design of the proposed walk-on  map in Museum Gardens, and to offer your own opinions  as to which designer we should choose.

YPS members should already know that the society is collaborating with the YMT to install this  map in Museum Gardens to celebrate the bicentenary of William Smith’s important geological map of 1815.

We have asked each of the two shortlisted  designers to create a full-size design for the small section of the map shown on the news posting. Their responses and a selection of their previous work has been on display in the lodge over the week-end, and this has attracted a great deal of interest, with over 30 people filling in comment sheets with very carefully reasoned arguments in support of their choice. The interesting fact is that, however carefully we analyse the results, they are almost perfectly balanced, with equal weight in favour of each. If you have not already expressed your own views, do come along to the lodge after tonight’s lecture, and let us know which designer you would prefer.
