From polythene bags to non-stick pans, the molecular structure of materials we encounter in our everyday lives plays a dominant role in their function. As a materials scientist, its my job to develop and adapt such materials to improve the experience of the consumer. However, are these materials usually designed to fulfil specific requirements, or are materials with novel properties more often discovered by accident? Using case studies and live demonstrations, well explore the chemistry of common materials (no prior knowledge required!) and look at some exciting modern and historical discoveries in materials science.
Doors open 7.15pm. Tickets are free and can be pre-booked by phone or on-line with City Screen (0871 902 5726)
Alternatively tickets are available on the night of the event at the City Screen Ticket Desk without incurring a booking charge.
